Securing a ticket to Electric Daisy Carnival, Mysteryland, Sunburn Music Festival, or even Tomorrowland is not the end of a raver’s struggle. After all, enjoying an EDM event does not mean letting go of everything and being all out crazy.
In order to balance fun and safety, you should consider these 10 tips.
1. Don’t be late.
Who would want to go to their favorite music festival and stand for hours, waiting like hundreds of people who did not decide to go early? If you go early, you will not feel the stress of waiting in line and you can pick a nice spot for you and your friends. Moreover, you can support the lesser known artists.
2. Drinks lots of water.
As long as you are old enough, you are allowed to drink alcohol and whatever beverage you want. However, never ever skip water because you need to stay hydrated during EDM festivals. As much as raving is fun, you will get tired and you will need to replenish yourself with water.
3. Be friendly and be part of the PLUR culture.
Even if you are alone or you and your friends feel intimidated by bigger groups of ravers, you should always be friendly. After all, EDM is related to PLUR culture, which emphasizes peace, love, unity, and respect. You’re all in this event to enjoy music, so spread the good vibes.
4. Check out artists and genres you’re unfamiliar with.
As much as you only want to see Steve Aoki, Martin Garrix, or The Chainsmokers, you should definitely consider seeing some of the other DJs who might just offer you a beautiful mix of tracks you love. Likewise, you might even learn to appreciate dubstep, drum and bass, trap music, hardstyle, and future house.
5. Prepare for whatever weather may come.
As much as you want to wear those fluffy stockings or fishnets, you need to consider the weather. If it’s going to be hot, remember to put on some sunscreen. If it’s going to rain, make sure that whatever you wear won’t hamper your movement.
6. Bring a phone and a power bank.
EDM festivals can get rough and rowdy, and you might get lost from your friends. Thus, you need a phone to communicate with them. Also, you could bump into your favorite DJ and take a rare selfie with him or her! Just keep your communication devices available for as long as possible.
7. Read the rules of the event carefully.
Each electronic music festival will still have its own rules. Some events might not allow LED gloves or Kandi bracelets, while others could prohibit bringing long umbrellas and big backpacks. Whatever it is, be sure to read the guidelines so that you won’t waste your time bringing them to the venue.
8. Be comfortable with what you wear.
Let your clothing be an expression of your individuality, but don’t forget that you should feel comfortable enough to dance for hours. Wear light LED shoes if you like shuffling, and get a pair of sunglasses if the lasers or the sunlight are too much for you.
9. Don’t just sit down. Dance and meet new friends!
You can sit down if you are tired after hours of dancing. Other than that, you should definitely stand up and dance as much as possible. You are in an EDM festival, after all! Jump with the crowd, clap along, sing with them, and have as much fun as you can with strangers who could be your new best friends.
10. Don’t just focus on taking pictures all the time.
As much as you want to capture the moment, don’t let your experiences be seen only through your smartphones and cameras. Learn to keep them inside your bag or pockets once in awhile and experience the euphoric mood with your own eyes and ears. Create memories that no picture can ever capture.
