Every year, Nike, Adidas, and other sneaker brands release so many new kicks that you simply can’t get all of them. However, there will always often be a pair or more that you cannot resist anymore. Thus, you prepare yourself to get them as soon as possible. But how can you cop these new kicks when there are thousands of others waiting in line to get them? Read on!
1. If you are buying online, stick with the official stores.
Yes, there are many sites for you to order shoes from, but you should always check out the official site of the brand first. After all, these have been made to withstand so much traffic that is normally experienced during a big release. Moreover, don’t forget to communicate with them through live chat or through their Twitter accounts.
2. You can also try buying from established online retailers.
If for some reason you can’t order through the official store, try buying your kicks through established retailers such as Eastbay or Footlocker. Since they are known distributors, they will likely be able to handle all the traffic during release day.
3. Do not pre-order on Ebay and on other similar websites.
As much as you want to order through Ebay or other similar websites, please don’t. Yes, they might be authentic, but there are also many horrible stories of pre-orders that turned out to be scams in the end. Just resist the temptation.
4. During the day of the online release, be as prepared as you can be.
First, you should already have an account on the online store, complete with your information. Be sure to be logged in before the release. Likewise, the website should already be open and you should follow the official Twitter accounts for any updates. Lastly, have another site open in another window and in another tab.
5. Do not forget about checking for restocks if you still don’t have your kicks.
Sometimes, there are still available shoes after the release date because some are returned due to having the wrong size. Likewise, some resellers return them in case no one buys them. These won’t always happen, but be on the lookout for them.
6. If you will be standing in line, be sure that you are ready for a mega release.
Sometimes, a release is more than just a common event. When the 2011 Retro Concords was announced, people lined up for more than a day just to cop a pair. You should be mentally and physically prepared for such a wait.
7. Be prepared and ask your stores several queries before the day of the release.
Some of the important things you should be asking your local store include the number of pairs to be released, the number of shoes per size, the opening time during that day, the number of expected people, and if they will be having lines inside the store.
8. Ask your local store if they will hand out wristbands for the release.
Sometimes, a store will give out wristbands before the day of the release. If you have one, you can easily be in front of anyone who doesn’t have the wristband provided. These are handed out to prevent mobs and incredibly long lines. So, ask your store if they will be giving these out.
9. Communicate with your local store properly.
Even if you already have your wristband and you have gone to the bathroom already, be sure that you are actually waiting for something that you can still receive. Basically, ask the store to remind you if they no longer have the size you were waiting for so that your time will not be wasted.
10. Build a rapport with the stores.
This is actually something that will take more time than usual, but the benefits will be worth it. For one, you can have a pair reserved already if the store workers are already quite familiar with you. This means you no longer have to stay in a long line for a day. Build a good relationship with your local store and they might just give you some privileges during the next release.
